What Are You Reading This Month?

There is no friend as loyal as a book. - Ernest Hemingway
It’s summer time.  This is the time of the year I love reading, or devouring books!  As a child we went to the library in the summer time, joined summer reading programs, and could not wait until the second week or so of school to see who had read the most books in our new class, or who went to the library to see that our name had been added to the wall of achievers with all the gold stars next to it.  Do children still participate in such activities?
I’m reading three books, (see I told you, devour!) (And these don’t include the waiting list at the library) 1. J. California Cooper’s “Some People, Some Other Place”, 2. Joan Morgan’s “When Chicken Heads Come Home to Roost, A Hip-Hop Feminist Breaks It Down” and 3. Toni Morrison’s “Sula”. Let me tell you, I am in overdrive, riding on pure excitement right now! Powerful, powerful authors, who all have the extraordinary gift of capturing minds through thought provoking words, put to paper.
Allow your minds to go to another place and expand on life, if you will and read something this summer; get a magazine subscription, read a blog.  Just read!

Spoken Word.

If I Knew

If I knew the last time I saw your face that I was saying goodbye to you, I would have
Prayed with you my strongest prayer
You were to me my breath of fresher air
Smiled longer
Made our bond stronger
Touched you more
Watched you soar
Heard you laugh
Prepared myself on loves behalf
Sat with you
Till we got that breakthrough
Cried until I couldn’t cry anymore
Loved you beyond my deepest core
Talked until my throat was raw
There’s nothing close to being in your presence, Naw

If I knew the last time I saw your face that I was saying goodbye to you, I would have
Done anything to prolong the moment
Told my love, that for you, it could never lie dormant
Commanded that part of the brain called the temporal lobe
To play its most critical role
Would’ve made it store and retrieve memories, crystal-clear
Making memories of you and of us constantly and for a lifetime, reappear
Had I known that the last time I saw your face that I was saying goodbye to you
All of this and more, I would surely do. If I knew

Endless Possibilities

My state of possible seems to have no end, no limit, no conclusions.  It's boundless, infinite, no end in site.

I'm caught up in endless possibilities.  Like an insect trapped in a cobweb providing nutrition to the spider, so are the possibilities trapped inside of me.  They are yearning to escape, to help nourish anything other than where they are trapped....in my psyche.

Today

The top bulb of my hourglass was reversed this morning at 5:30 a.m. to begin measuring my new passage.Today I celebrate another year of life.  Thank you God, my Heavenly Father, that because you said so, here I stand another year, another vessel, carrying another spirit to another dominion to obtain knowledge, for another understanding, another wisdom, and another love.

Thanks, But No Thanks. No More Bones Please.

To ALL the ones that fed me bones over the last several years, i wanted to let you know that i have been given meat that doesn't  have bones.  I no longer have to wait until you are full  to throw me the bones from your left over meal.  Thanks, but no thanks.  No more bones please.

I'm being fed on a regular basis.  I have well balanced meals now, producing a more healthier, happier and well rounded me. Let me ask you; are you yourself still feasting on all that you have? and when you attempted to throw me a few bones, only to go back to the usual dumping site and see the bones still laying exactly where you threw them, what did you feel?  Are you void of feelings? were you confused? did you see it as a challenge? or did you simply think that if you threw more bones than usual that i would eventually get tired of starving and eat? Thanks, but no thanks. No more bones please.

Funny thing happened while i was dealing with this starvation; I got so week that i had to stop taking your bones and start to eat from a healthier source; the cycle got reversed.  Now, I am no longer deficient; my nutrient and vitamin intake is sufficient. There is no longer an imbalance between my energy intake and my energy expenditure. I'm accepting no more bones.

God was patient with me, and waited until i was ready, and now my famine is over. I  made the choice to say thanks, but no thanks, made the effort, to walk, even if i had to walk alone until my God decided to change my situation, got treatment through the word of God, and encouragement from those that wanted to share their food, not their bones, and learned of prevention, changed my appetite;  recognized that you meant no harm, its just that this has worked for you for so long that you really don't know how detrimental your bones are to those who need to be fed.

Feed me with something that we both can take and feed others with. Thanks, but no Thanks.  No more bones please.

Crossing Over to 2012

This year is about to be called “last year”, and a new year is fast approaching. I wanted to wish you a happy, vibrant, and prosperous New Year. May we take this upcoming year by force as we find and possibly create new and exciting opportunities to redeem ourselves, or make ourselves better.

This time of the year has a tendency to make us reflect, and be excited about renewing and reinventing ourselves and our spirits. I cheer on those who advocate exercise and healthy diets. But why stop there, I say add to that. Let’s get our minds, spirits, and emotions healthy as well. A Total body health and fitness for me as we cross over to 2012.

Happy New Year!
