My Tuesday Tune

Hey Peeps, it’s Queen She known as me here and I’m talking today about…you guessed it, my Tuesday tune, or as I often call it, my private noise!

The tune I’m listening to as I type this post is by The Lijadu Siters and it’s called Come on Home.

“Come on Home” is a summery piece of art, the sonic equivalent of a flowery sun dress, and a timeless testament to the internationally ubiquitous feeling of joy."-Vibes

I started listening to Nigerian music four years ago and at the same time introducing my oldest granddaughter to it.  Turns out it would later benefit her because several of her closest friends are Nigerian, and she's able to enjoy their music with them and they can enjoy hers with her.

Anyways, I started out listening to Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage and Emma Nyra who are all present-day singers, songwriters and performers, but The Lijadu Sisters are identical twin sisters’ who in the 1960’s and 70’s intertwined funk, afro-beat, and soul into their music.  They were known for incorporating their Nigerian roots; like in the song Come on Home the lyrics are both in English and their native Yoruba.  Another example is the song starts off with the sound of West African talking drums, and then you hear a bass guitar.

So take a listen to my Tuesday Tune, let me know if you dig it! Peace.

Dear Brother

Dear Brother.  I was supposed to do and publish this post a week ago on your birthday, but, I didn't want to write about you, I wanted to reminisce about the time when you were here with us.  Selfish I know.  Sometimes I can't believe that you're not here; your spirit has soared away, and the shell of a body that housed it has been properly laid to rest.  I understand it all, I just can't get my heart to sink.

To be absent from us means you're present with Him.  I know you're looking down on us all.  I have your picture on my wall at work.  I glance over and see you with that huge grin and hairy chin, I tear up.  I know you're in a better place, and it hurt me to see you in so much pain.  It's just hard to believe sometimes that in this whole gigantic world with all these people in it, not one of their faces belong to you.  I guess that's called grief. I wasn't ready. I wasn't ready.

Your other siblings miss you tremendously.  They carry on with their lives the best way they know how.  They are living; but i'm sure sometimes they have to stop and catch their breaths, especially when it hits them, you're not here.  I'm sure we all have our own little emotional ride on the roller coaster, then we jump off when we need to in order to carry on and move forward.

Just so you know, you were the coolest, kiddo.  The sweetest person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.  It was truly an honor to be one of your sisters. Top notch special.

Missing and loving you always Jason H. Parker. I'll see ya later.

Sharing The Diva Journals

Hey Peeps! Queen She known as Me here, hoping you’re having a happy Monday.  I get emails all the time asking questions about the Diva Journals; but there is one question that I get a lot and that is “what motivates me to pick up the pen, hit the keyboard, or (as I say) empty the mind tank”.  What motivates me to share the Diva Journals?

So, for you inquiring minds who really want to know, today I thought I would drop a few lines to let you in on what motivates me to put meaning and rhythm to words, divulge, and let you read what’s in the Diva’s journal!

I started this blog several years ago while on sick leave, when I needed something to occupy my mind on the days when it seemed like time was crawling and I would suffer from cabin fever.  It was supposed to be my open online journal that I could share with the world. Over the next few years I would blog every other month, to sometimes every five or six months. In 2013 I blogged only three measly times! I was inconsistent, and yes, that sucked, because l didn’t realize I was snuffing out my own little light by not being as diligent as I had once been.

As most of you know I am an avid reader.  I would read religiously other people’s blogs every week and would get upset if they didn’t update it on a regular basis, when I wasn’t even taking mine seriously enough to update it or keep it updated on a regular basis.  The nerve of me; a slacker trying to call out other people for not entertaining my wandering untamed mind.

I had to start over with my baby (The Diva Journals) and go back to when I uploaded my first post; how elated, yet scared, and nervous I was. But how glad I was that I took the first step and did it.  I decided I would give her the attention she once had and deserved.  I got serious about becoming a blogger; I gathered great information and studied it.  I didn’t want to become just better at blogging, I wanted to become good at it, then someday be great at it.  I’m a little past mediocre, working to become exceptional. I want to keep going and keep learning.

It was never about readership for me, because I’m pretty sure as big as that information space known as the world wide web is, someone somewhere will come across these words.  No, it was more about sharing my words and thoughts with people, and comfortably emptying myself and creating a platform for others to do so as well.  So, you see my blog motivates me, plain and simple.  For eight years she’s given me the space to ramble on and on and feel relaxed in doing so, plus I come across some pretty cool things on my journey, and I sometimes want to share.

There are so many, many good blogs out there in www land. If you don’t believe me just go to your nearest browser and put in bloggers.  But let me warn you, entertainment and information overload will come in hard at ya!
